Solar Energy, Way To Go!

In late 2015, we were visited by a number of solar company representatives in a bid to sell us the idea of installing solar for our domestic energy needs for our home in the Netherlands. All the representatives juiced up the deal for us. We were not going to spend a penny on buying, installation and use, but just continue paying the same bill as before.

In mid 2016 we made the decision to go solar. We were convinced because of a number of reasons the first being reducing on emissions that harm the environment. Secondly, the value of our house would go up because of the solar system.Thirdly, it would not disrupt our budget in any way. And fourthly, after 10 years we would be consuming free energy!

After agreeing on the detailed plan, the company organised financing for us for the purchase and  installation of the solar plates on our roof. The long term loan is repayable within 10 years, but the beauty of it is that you just continue paying what you have been paying to the bank instead of the energy suppliers.

In summer, when less energy is used, the excess energy is sold to the national grid and in winter if we require more energy, it is supplied by the national grid. It is a win win situation.

In 9 years time, we shall be spending minimally on our power needs.

With the very conducive weather and climate in Uganda, if the government can adopt such a model, we would go far in solving our energy needs instead of guaranteeing foreign companies and their local leeches overpriced energy payments from diesel generators, solar farms and hydro power dams.
